Poiette's Pondering

I was very moved as I read this story of how Elder Bednar's desire to attend his son's basketball game and following the Spirit blessed another man.

When Elder Bednar was Stake President and presiding over a Stake priesthood leadership meeting he noticed a particular Elder's Quorum president walk in an sit down and thought about their sons who were an hour away playing in a championship basketball game. He wrestled with the idea of going to the game, especially because most of the men attending the meeting had traveled great distances.  He leaned over and asked his counselor if he could handle the meeting.  The counselor replied that he could.  Then Elder Bednar proceeded to walk down to the EQ Pres. and asked him to come with him as they would be having a PPI on the way to go and watch their sons play.  Elder Bednar felt "guilty" about the situation, until couple of months later when the EQ Pres. called to thank him for the inspiration to go and watch the game that night.  His son had been killed in an accident and it was the last time he was able to see him play.  http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/46370/Legacy-of-family-faith-is-foundation-of-life.html

This year I have had a goal to follow the Spirit more and to be more aware of the promptings I am receiving.  I often don't know why I have a certain impression and it usually doesn't make sense and is inconvenient.  As a Stake President leaving a meeting like that, could not have been a popular decision, but he followed the prompting anyways.  I want to follow Bednar's example so that I too may be an instrument in the Lord's hands and be a blessing to others as he was to that dad.      ~Poiette Hedgecock
